Simultaneous dual-wavelength emission on the 4F3/24I9/2 and 4F3/24I11/2 transitions employing Nd-based thin-disk lasers

Abstract

Simultaneous multiple-wavelength emission from a single laser medium is of interest in various practical fields, such as medical treatment, holography, laser spectroscopy, or laser probing and analysis of the atmosphere. The replacement of flash lamp pumping by diode laser pumping allowed significant improvements of the output performances of solid-state lasers, and revitalized the research on dual-wavelength emission [1]. While simultaneous emission at 1.06 μm and 1.3 μm could be easily realized in Nd-vanadates and Nd:YAG, concomitant dualwavelength operation of a quasi-three-level and a four-level transition was to date reported only in Nd:YAG [2]. The emission on the 946-nm 4F3/24I9/2 transition had, however, low performance compared with the 1064-nm line.
