Abstract
Mobile devices with high-resolution multimedia content like PDAs, iPods, and cell phones are currently developing a strong demand for compact high-performance projection displays. Since display size is dominated by the light source (including etendue considerations), laser displays are the technology of choice for such applications. The key element for the development of compact laser displays remains to be the green laser source. Since all current approaches are based on frequency doubling, the green laser is the main driver of size and power consumption. We present a miniature green laser source targeted for mobile display applications based on an intra-cavity frequency doubled Optically Pumped Semiconductor Disk Laser (OPS).
