Abstract

Optically pumped vertical-extemal-cavity surface-emitting lasers (VECSELs) are very well developed in the wavelength region around 1 micron yielding powers in the tens of Watts range [1], In contrast, the power available at 850 mn is much more limited (about 0.5 Watt) [2], This is not the least connected to the availability of suitable pmnp sources, since 850 mn VECSEL systems are normally pumped with laser diodes emitting below 700 mn. However, these pmnp somces are significantly more expensive and less bright than their counterparts around 800 mn.
