Spectral broadening in Raman fiber amplifier pumped by partially coherent wave

Abstract

Raman fiber amplifiers (RFA) are key components to increase the capacity of WDM transmission systems. Although they have been thoroughly investigated through the past decades, it is still under debate to know which pumping configuration is the most suitable. Here we report a spectral broadening of the amplified signal in Raman fiber amplifiers when a broadband continuous wave pump is used in a co-propagating configuration.
