Abstract

Lithium niobate (LiNbO3) is a well known ferroelectric material whose excellent non-linear properties have been exploited for photonic applications. Periodic poling of LiNbO3 for use in second harmonic generation by quasi-phase matching is of great interest in optical devices and the possibility of forming tailored ferroelectric domains allows a variety of new applications. Domain patterning can be achieved by a variety of techniques, including direct fonnation during crystal growth.
