Abstract

Thin disk geometry for high power laser applications has a number of advantages over rod geometry. An efficient cooling from the large surface makes it possible to pump thin disk or slab with high power density, so the lùgli output power operation is accessible. In recent years Yb:YAG crystals have been used for thin disk lasers. However spectral and thermal characteristics of Yb:GGG crystals are not second after Yb:YAG but sometimes exceed it.
