Abstract
Precision force measurements help understanding physical processes in many fields, ranging from molecular biology to gravity and astronomy. Examples are intramolecular binding forces in the range of pN, the Moon’s gravitational tidal force of 100 pN acting on a 1 g test mass, or the light force of 6.7 pN exerted on a highly reflecting mirror by a 1 mW laser light beam.
