Q-switching of a distributed feedback fiber laser by using longitudinal acoustic waves

Abstract

In the last years, a number of proposals of distributed feedback fiber lasers (DFB), based on the introduction of a phase-shift in a fiber Bragg grating (FBG), have been demonstrated. Different techniques have been employed to obtain such an effect: temperature, strain or photoinduced defects have been reported [1]. However, these methods, due to their static nature, lead to DFB lasers operating in CW regime. Up to our knowledge, only one technique to obtain a pulsed, single frequency DFB fibe laser has been reported [2].
