Abstract

The laser cladding technique allows depositing an alloy material on a wide variety of metal substrates. It consists on melting a small depth of the near surface of the base metal by the laser beam while at the same time the alloy poweder is continuously delivered onto the melt pool. Upon solidification, a dense, pore free and metallurgically bonded to the substrate coating is obtained. This technique is increasingly being used in manufacturing processes to coat and repair surfaces of machine parts and components.
