Broadband Near-field Optical Spectrometer for the Observation of Structural Phase Contrast in Organic Semiconductors

Abstract

Conjugated organic materials combine the electronic and optical properties of semiconductors with the processing advantages of plastics. In the solid state they are generally amorphous or polycrystalline, showing local order only in mesoscopic domains, with size ranging from 10 to 100 nm. Such structural inhomogeneity crucially influences the efficiency and properties of organic devices for optoelectronics. Hence, an imaging method offering morphology contrast on the nanoscale is needed.
