Abstract
In recent years, there has been tremendous progress on diode-pumped femtosecond lasers. For example G. Holtom has achieved more than 5 W average power with pulse widths of 134 fs from a Yb:KGW slab-laser [1], while with the thin-disk laser concept, it has been possible to achieve high average powers, for instance 22 W output power at a pulse width of 240 fs from an Yb:KYW oscillator [2]. Here, we demonstrate that the efficiency of diode pumped sub-200 fs slab lasers can be significantly increased by employing the Ng-cut orientation of Yb:KGW and the application of high-power broad-area diodes [3].
