Abstract

Yb3+:CaGdAlO4 has been recently proved to be very interesting for the development of diode-pumped short-pulse mode-locked lasers. This crystal combines very promising properties. Firstly, it has the broadest and the flattest emission band of all the Yb-doped materials. Laser action has been obtained for various ytterbium contents. Tunability experiments (see figure) show that 3.5% at represents optimal doping rate [1].
