Modelling transport in Quantum Cascade Lasers: A comparison between theory and experiment

Abstract

The quantum cascade laser[l] (QCL) is a large quantum system that can be modelled in various ways. From pur quantum mechanical models[2], Monte-Carlo simulations[3,-5] and scattering models[6,7] to very simple rate equations. In particular there is room to develop effective models[8] that implement the main physics of the system but that remain simple enough to enable the calculation of the optical field and allow a systematic optimization of the structures. An essential step in the development of such models is the confrontation of their predictions to experiments.
