All-optical memory based on the injection locking bistability of a two-colour laser diode

Abstract

The device we consider is a multi-quantum well InP/InGaAlAs two-colour Fabry-Perot laser [Eblana Photonics] that incorporates slotted regions in the laser ridge waveguide [1]. A hysteresis loop of the output power in the uninjected mode as a function of the power injected in the long-wavelength primary mode is shown in Fig. 1 (left). Insets show the co-existing steady states associated with the bistability. Pulsed modulation of the injected power leads to switching between these states, as shown in Fig. 1 (centre).
