Bandwidth Enhancement using master laser modulation and optical injection locking in the Semiconductor Ring Laser

Abstract

It is previously demonstrated that modulation bandwidth of semiconductor lasers can be enhanced by modulating the master laser in an optical injection locking (OIL) system [1]. Semiconductor ring laser (SRL) is a promising device for integrated OIL configuration, as the SRL operates only in the direction receiving injection, therefore does not feedback into the master laser [2]. In this paper we report bandwidth enhancement of SRL to >20GHz in a master-slave OIL configuration with the SRL as the slave laser.
