Abstract

The interpretation of the mechanisms underlying supercontinuum (SC) generation, although generally well understood, constitutes a difficult problem due to the multitude of nonlinear effects involved [1]. Our aim here is to provide general physical insights into SC generation on the basis of simple thermodynamic considerations.
