Abstract
Magnesium is an interesting candidate for a future neutral atom optical frequency standard. We report on an absolute frequency measurement on the 1S0→ 3P1 clock transition of 24Mg at 457 nm based on cold atoms and the characterization of the short and long term stability of our system via telecom fiber network. Our measurement improves earlier data[l], which was taken on a beam of thermal Mg atoms, by an order of magnitude in terms of accuracy.
