Abstract
Photonic crystal structures have a great potential to reduce the size and increase the functionality of integrated optics devices. Of special interests are photonic crystals in nonlinear optical materials exploiting the electro-optic effect to perform fast optical modulation, switching, and wavelength division multiplexing. Here, we focus on LiNbO3 as one of the most attractive materials of choice due to its excellent electro-optical properties and the possibility to fabricate large-area, submicron-thick single-crystal films using our novel technique [1, 2].
