Abstract
Mixed vanadate laser crystal technology, where a fraction (x) of the Y ions (for example) in a Nd:YVO4 crystal are replaced with Gd ions (Nd:GdxY1-xVO4), has recently received increased attention due to the attraction of customising the fluorescence spectrum and stimulated emission cross-section of the amplifier [1]. Due to the lower gain (as compared with Nd:YVO4, for example), the output power of single mixed vanadate oscillators has been limited to <20W. Here, to the best of our knowledge, we present the highest power mixed vanadate oscillator with an output power of 27.5W in multi-mode operation and 23W in TEM00.
