Abstract
Laser technology is maturing rapidly and is finding applications in areas such as high resolution spectroscopy, optical telecoms, metrology, where highly coherent, low noise, compact and high power tunable sources are required. For this purpose, a compact design can be achieved, using a simple extended-cavity semiconductor surface emitting laser (VeCSEL), that outclasses the performances reached by traditional laser technologies (laser diode, DPSSL, …). These lasers offer continuous wave operation at 300K at high output power with a circular, diffraction limited, low divergence beam.
