Quasi phase matching (QPM), realized by periodic inversion of crystal polarization, have been used for highly efficient nonlinear wavelength conversion, such as second harmonic generation and optical parametric oscillation (OPO). Last several years, we have reported high-energy OPO by using periodically poled Mg-doped congruent LiNbO3 (MgLN) to generate high-energy mid-IR light [1, 2]. Also, we have reported on Mg-doped congruent LiTaO3 (MgLT) as a new material for high power/energy QPM device [3, 4]. MgLT has improved properties on thermal conductivity and absorption edge in UV region compared to MgLN, although nonlinear coefficient of MgLT is smaller than MgLN, and we expect that MgLT is suitable for higher power/energy QPM device compared to MgLN. In this study, characterization of high-energy OPO using periodically poled MgLT (PPMgLT) will be presented, and compared to that of conventional periodically poled MgLN (PPMgLN).
