Ultrabroad bandwidth signal generation based on frequency-to-time mapping in the temporal Fresnel regime

Abstract

It is very well known that ultrashort optical pulses spread by linear propagation in a dispersive medium due to the fact that each spectral component experiences a different group velocity. The so-called frequency-to-time mapping phenomenon establishes that, after sufficient dispersion, the output intensity profile is given by a scaled replica of the optical spectrum of the pulse [1]. This technique is becoming increasingly popular in areas as diverse as ultrafast spectroscopy [2], imaging [3], or electrical arbitrary waveform generation (E- AWG) [4], among others.
