Abstract
We present a novel design of an all-fiber hybrid erbium laser/ytterbium amplifier system for high power femtosecond pulse generation. Experimental setup shown in Fig.1 consists of a passively mode-locked femtosecond Er:fiber oscillator, a diode pumped Er-doped fiber amplifier, a single-mode fiber used as a nonlinear pulse compressor, a silica dispersion-shifted fiber (DSF) for wavelength conversion, and a diode-pumped two stage Yb-doped high power amplifier. Additionally, a free space grating pair compressor is used to shorten the output pulse to its transform-limited duration.
