Abstract

Fast random number generators are highly desirable for applications such as encryption or Monte-Carlo modeling. Typically the generation of a true random bit sequence is based on physical process, such as photon counting, spontaneous emission, detection of vacuum fluctuations, chaos in lasers, etc. However, typically the bit rate is limited by the intrinsic properties of the system components to a few tens of Gb/s. Thus it is difficult to achieve Tb/s true random bits rates required for modern and future challenges. Here we introduce a Tb/s physical random bit generator based on an optoelectronic phase-chaos system operating with telecom components [1].
