Abstract
A challenge in building monolithic fiber laser light sources is the characterization of their optical components, especially of the fiber Bragg gratings (FBG) within the actively doped fiber, which define the resonator. We propose an experimental technique to characterize such FBG under pumping conditions directly during FBG inscription. The observed dynamics are discussed considering different absorption processes, taking place during inscription and pumping. Furthermore, we study the laser performance at different pump powers and discuss observed changes in the laser spectra.
