Abstract

Tunable lasers are widely used for the swept source optical imaging. While the majority of commercially available tunable sources operate in 1300 nm and 1500 nm spectral ranges, the 700-1100 nm spectral range is beneficial for applications like high resolution optical coherence tomography (OCT) or non-destructive testing (NDT) [1]. Laser sources based on semiconductor optical amplifiers (SOAs) have a wide tuning range and a relatively compact size [2]. We report on the development of tunable semiconductor lasers covering 780-1000 nm spectral range with a fiber ring cavity based on the novel single quantum well (SQW) broadband SOAs.
