Abstract

The detection of THz broadband pulses is of interest for a number of applications ranging from security to quality control. One of the most employed techniques for performing THz spectroscopy relies on recording the THz electric field in the time domain and then performing a direct Fourier Transform [1]. To this end, the typical approaches rely on biased photoconductive antennas or on the electro-optic effect in second order nonlinear media. Yet, the free-carriers lifetime, optical absorption, phase matching constraints and etalon effects limit the bandwidth of these techniques to typically below 4 THz.
