Abstract
It is now well established that microstructured fibres, in particular photonic crystal fibres (PCFs), permit remarkable control of the propagation of guided light. Hollow core PCF has triggered the emergence of a new generation of versatile and efficient gas- and liquid-based systems, such as pulse compression devices, light sources tunable from the vacuum UV to the near IR [1,2], nonlinear devices based on alkali metals [3,4] and efficient photochemical microreactors [5].
