Abstract

Ultrafast laser technology in vacuum ultraviolet (VUV) region has been rapidly grown with development of free-electron laser and high-order harmonic generation (HHG). Femtosecond (fs) VUV pulses are easily generated as high-order harmonics by focusing a fs laser pulse in a rare gas media, while the characterization of VUV pulses is still difficult owing to the lack of efficient nonlinear optical material for frequency-resolved optical gating (FROG) and spectral phase interferometry for direct electric-field reconstruction (SPIDER). In this study, we propose and demonstrate a new method for characterizing VUV waveform based on time-resolved reflection measurement using a plasma mirror formed by an intense laser pulse.
