Abstract

Femtosecond tunable wavelength optical parametric amplification (OPA) systems are indispensable for ultrafast science applications such as time-resolved pump-probe experiments (transient absorption spectroscopy, fluorescence up-conversion, mass spectroscopy) and femtosecond CARS. Incorporating optical parametric chirped pulse amplification (OPCPA) technique leads to extremely high peak intensities of light which is demanded by modern laser-matter interaction applications [1]. A seed source for such a system is commonly a Ti:Sapphire femtosecond oscillator or white light continuum (WLC) generated by femtosecond pulses from a regenerative amplifier. Standard approach requires using a complex femtosecond CPA laser system for broadband signal generation and high energy picosecond lasers for pumping. As the generation wavelength of ps and fs lasers is usually different, complicated synchronization of the femtosecond and picosecond lasers has to be performed [2]. In this work we developed a compact femtosecond tunable wavelength OPCPA system with a novel front-end which uses a spectrally broadened picosecond fiber oscillator for seeding picosecond DPSS regenerative amplifier and WLC generation. This approach does not require using femtosecond laser and eliminates the need of seed and pump pulse synchronization therefore greatly simplifying the system.
