Abstract
High Voltage (HV) discharges can be initiated and guided with ultrashort pulse laser filaments [1]. Many experiments have been carried out with DC [2], AC [3], and pulsed voltage sources, in order to study the underlying mechanism. There are still several open questions to be answered in order to use it for real world applications, such as the guiding of lightning. We are presenting new results that show the importance of space charge effects and hence the electric field dynamics during the guided discharge event.
