Abstract

A growing number of applications can benefit from carrier envelope offset frequency (fCEO) stabilized sources with high average output power (hundreds of watts), i.e. pulse energies of several tens of µJ and high repetition rates in the multi-MHz regime. One important example is XUV frequency metrology based on extra or intra-cavity high-harmonic generation. So far, however, no stabilized frequency comb with >100 W of average power has been demonstrated and the frequency comb with the highest average power (80 W) is currently based on a fiber amplifier system [1]. Among possible laser technologies with multi-100-W performance, SESAM-modelocked thin-disk lasers (TDLs) are particularly promising: they achieve the highest average output power (275 W) and pulse energy (80 µJ) of any oscillator, directly from a low-noise compact system without further external amplification [2].
