Abstract
Optical heterodyning for photonic oscillators is now firmly established. The optically-carried RF signal is provided by the beat note between two laser modes, which is usually locked to a RF reference. While active locking using phase-locked loops have been shown to transfer the spectral purity of the reference to the beat note, these architectures need a way to tune the frequency difference electronically [1]. Here, we propose to use pure optical locking, that is mutual injection locking by submitting DFB lasers to intensity modulated optical feedback [2].
