Narrowband superfluorescent fiber source with record 1.87 kW output power in all-fiber MOPA structure

Superfluorescent fiber sources (SFSs, also referred to as amplified spontaneous emission, ASE) are widely applied in many fields, such as optical coherence tomography (OCT), low coherence interferometry, and optical sensors, for their high temporal and thermal stability, and short coherence length [1]. Meanwhile, high power SFS maybe an alternative solution to obtain a novel high brightness light source for materials processing and metrology [2]. In 2014, we demonstrated a broadband SFS with 1.01 kW output power in all-fiberized master oscillator power amplifier (MOPA) structure [3]. What’s more, the obtaining of narrowband high power SFS is significant as the feasibility of phase locking of spectrum in the nm range for coherent beam combination has been demonstrated [4]. In 2011, O. Schmidt et al. [5] obtained a 697 W narrowband ASE source which employs bulk optics configuration. In this paper, we report a narrowband all-fiber SFS with 1.87 kW output power.
