Abstract

Originally, the modelling of fiber amplifiers (FA) was based on a rate equation (RE) approach, accounting for the non-constant gain and amplified stimulated emission (ASE) along the fiber. This approach is valid for low intensity seed signal pulses and has been sufficiently accurate in telecom applications.
