Abstract

Plasmonic aperture arrays in metal thin-films exhibit a variety of interesting sub-wavelength optical transmission properties which have led to their use as color filters [1], and biosensors [2, 3]. The nanoapertures act as a grating coupler, enabling surface plasmon resonance (SPR) to be generated by light incident on the metal film. Alteration of the nano-aperture geometry dictates the frequencies of light, and therefore colours, which are able to pass through the film.
