Abstract
A novel optical interferometric biosensor based on the interaction between the fundamental mode and the second order mode is presented. In 2011 it was proposed a new type of optical interferometric biosensor based in the modal interaction between the fundamental mode and the first order mode of the light. This new type of biosensor, fabricated in silicon related technologies and operating at the visible range, obtained bulk sensitivities around 10−7 RIU ensuring a compact device of high sensitivity, which was very beneficial for the sake of integration on chip [1]. On this basis, we here propose numerically a new and highly sensitive and compact trimodal interferometric waveguide for biosensing applications fabricated in polymer technology.
