Abstract

Ultrashort pulse fiber lasers are very versatile for laser applications due to their robustness, compact foot print and maintenance-free operation. Attractive systems to further extend the wavelength range accessible with rare-earth doped fiber lasers are fiber-based optical parametric oscillators (FOPO), working with the technique of dispersion filtering. In this technique, a highly dispersive resonator enables to tune the resonant wavelength of the FOPO by simply matching the repetition frequency of the pump laser to the repetition frequency of the desired specific wavelength component of a largely chirped resonant signal pulse. Based on this technique, several systems have been presented [1–4]. However, the applicability of FOPOs is typically limited by the lack of possibilities to adjust the spectral width of its output pulses on demand.
