Abstract

It is known that there is a significant portion of the near-IR wavelength band uncovered by rare-earth-doped active fibers. This fact stimulates many research in this direction and a new approach to generate high-power ultrashort pulses by stimulated Raman scattering was demonstrated recently both in the intra- and extra-cavity configurations [1,2]. The generated Raman pulse was proved to be a Raman dissipative soliton (RDS) [1] that can be combined coherently with the main (pump) DS in the intra-cavity design [3]. On the other side a much higher RDS energy could be achieved in the extra-cavity configurations as far as pump and Raman lasers can be optimized independently [2].
