Abstract
Coherent Raman imaging by means of coherent anti-Stokes Raman scattering (CARS) or stimulated Raman scattering (SRS) have been promoted from almost two decades now as efficient label free fast imaging modalities with chemical sensitivity and with a sensitivity orders of magnitude greater than spontaneous Raman scattering [1]. The ability of CARS to detect stable isotope (e.g. deuterium and C13) is appealing since these tiny vibrational probes only differ from their natural counterparts by neutron numbers and thus closely mimic the corresponding physicochemical properties. Recently we have used deuterated molecular compounds to follow how active molecules penetrate into human skin [2] and revealed 3D trans-cutaneous molecular diffusion pathways with important applications in dermatology [3].
