Fabrication of nanohole suspended core fibers and their dispersion properties

Abstract

Optical fibers are capable of providing unique dispersion properties such as all-normal dispersion which are hard to achieve by other means. An all-normal dispersion profile provides low normal dispersion values over an extended spectral range while omitting any zero dispersion wavelength and anomalous dispersion. Such a dispersion profile is a prerequisite for coherent and pulse-preserving supercontinuum generation [1] and typically provided by photonic crystal fibers [2] due to their high flexibility to provide all-normal dispersion throughout the entire transparency range of fused silica. In contrast, suspended-core fibers (SCFs), which are much simpler to realize, can provide all-normal dispersion only in a limited spectral range in the visible [2].
