Abstract
It is well known that highly nonlinear phenomena, such as high-harmonic generation, are sensitive to the carrier-envelope phase (CEP) of an intense laser pulse. Sub-laser-cycle processes also leave signatures within the spectral width of the pulse, but their investigation attracted significantly less attention. Here we report on an unexpected theoretical result related to multiphoton absorption and interband tunnelling in crystalline solids: the CEP-sensitive part of the absorbed energy has a surprisingly regular dependence on the pulse amplitude and its carrier-envelope phase.
