Rate equation analysis of slow-light photonic crystal lasers

Abstract

We derive laser rate equations including slow-light effect and coupling, induced by gain, between photonic crystal waveguide Bloch modes. We apply it to the calculation of the laser modulation bandwidth and energy cost per bit.
