Abstract

We demonstrate an acousto-optic modulator on a suspended GaAs platform for efficient microwave-to-optical transduction. Owing to high refractive index and photoelastic coefficients, GaAs offers strong optomechanical coupling to achieve a VL of 0.22V.cm, even for relatively lower optical quality factors.
