Thermally reconfigurable loss in a passive optical cavity

Abstract

We demonstrate thermo-optic tuning of the quality factor from 3000 to 10000 and extinction ratio from approx 0dB to 25dB in a passive silicon micro-ring resonator. This work opens several possibilities for reconfigurable photonics.
