Abstract

The range of applications for rapidly tuned broadband swept source laser systems with a pulse peak power in the kilowatt range is becoming increasingly diverse. Among other things, pulsed swept source lasers are used in two photon microscopy (TPM) (1) and high-speed, inertia-free LiDAR (2). Here we present a high-speed swept source Fourier Domain Mode Locked (FDML) (3) laser combined with a Master Oscillator Power Amplifier (MOPA) architecture (3) (4) at a near-infrared central wavelength of 1550 nm using Erbium-doped fiber amplifiers (EDFAs). The system operates at a sweep rate of 326kHz. Out of these wavelength sweeps, short (60ps) pulses are modulated using a high-speed electro-optic modulator (EOM) to produce a wavelength-swept pulse train of 80 MHz pulse repetition rate and 326 kHz sweep rate over a bandwidth of 20 nm.
