Accelerated Adjoint Shape Optimization via Automatic Differentiation

Abstract

We use automatic differentiation to enhance shape optimization approaches to photonic inverse design, resulting in over two orders-of-magnitude improvement in the gradient calculation time of our grating coupler proof-of-concept.
