Generation of light beams carrying orbital angular momentum using an ultrathin plasmonic metasurface

Abstract

We generate optical orbital angular momentum in the visible regime via spin-to-orbital angular momentum coupling by ultrathin (λ/30), inhomogeneous, birefringent plasmonic arrays. Such metasurfaces will enable compact, efficient generation of structured light.
