Low-loss embedded waveguides in PMMA written by a femtosecond laser

Abstract

We present an efficient method for ultrafast waveguide writing in polymers exploiting a refocusing effect. Increased refractive index is induced below a secondary focus and supports waveguiding with unprecedented propagation losses down to 0.5 dB/cm.
