Abruptly focusing X-waves: Nondiffracting waves with localized disruptions

Abstract

We present a family of electromagnetic wavepackets with nondiffracting behavior for most of their propagation, but are capable of extremely strong focusing behavior at specified locations, enhancing their peak intensity by over 200 times.
